I’m proud to stand beside Telisa King as part of her Woman of Impact team supporting the American Heart Association Go Red for Women campaign.
I’ve seen the kind of leader she is — in ERG leadership, in community, and as a friend and mentor. When she asked me to join her team, I didn’t hesitate.
This cause is personal for me. My father died of a heart attack. We weren’t close, but I can’t ignore what heart disease can do.
I also live with high blood pressure. I’ve had moments that genuinely scared me — episodes where I later realized my blood pressure had spiked. Wake-up calls I couldn’t brush aside.
I move fast. I take on a lot. I show up fully in whatever setting I’m in because I care deeply about what I’m responsible for. But strength without balance comes at a cost.
Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer of women. Too many of us push through, power on, and assume we’ll deal with our health later.
Later isn’t guaranteed.
I have two boys and a husband and if I want to be present for them, fully and for the long haul, my health has to matter just as much as my commitments.
This isn’t about a campaign graphic or wearing red for a day. It’s about taking women’s heart health seriously - including my own.
If you're able, I'm asking you to take action.
- Donate. A $25 donation makes a difference. Small gifts add up quickly.
- Use corporate matching if it’s available to you.
And maybe most importantly — schedule the appointment, check your numbers, don’t ignore the signs.
We are really good at showing up for everyone else. Let’s show up for ourselves, too.
I’m in. Join me.
