Life is why we walk.
Thanks to all our walkers, donors and volunteers who have accepted the challenge to help fight heart disease and stroke. We cannot achieve our mission without each one of you!
Brooklyn Heart Walk
“Heart Disease remains the number 1 killer of New Yorkers. Unfortunately, like many of you, my family and I have been personally affected by Heart Disease.
At the age of 49, my father was diagnosed with Heart Disease. He had chest pains, and it revealed that he had 3 blocked arteries, leading him to receive a triple by-pass. He was an active strong man, it didn’t matter how strong he was, because heart disease has always been in my family. Following his first battle with heart disease he watched himself, he ate right, walked, exercised and tried to stay healthy.
Years later, he suffered a Massive Heart Attack, he had flat lined for over 4 minutes. At that time we thought we had lost him, however thanks to the doctors, he was brought back. That was just the beginning, he was in a coma for 21 Days. While he was in the coma, I spent every day and night at his bedside until he woke up.
He went to rehab, and then was not the same person. As time went along more treatments, stents, receiving a cow valve, and then his heart was weak and he passed away on March 28, 2017 at the age of 71.
I thank the American Heart Association for the work they do and the programs and education they offer everyone.”
We aren't just walking. We're Heartwalking! Thank you for joining nearly 1 million Americans at 305 events across the country to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
