Jay earned his BSN at the University of Texas, a Masters in Nursing at the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Nichols College School of Business.
He has spent the past 38 years in the in healthcare and hospital leadership. For the past 30 years he has been at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester, MA serving in a variety of progressive clinical and leadership roles including working as an ICU & ED staff nurse, a cardiac critical care educator, nurse manager, director and Vice President of the Heart & Vascular Center of Excellence where he focused on improving cardiac services for providers and patients.
In 2013 Jay was promoted to Senior Vice President for Surgical Services which covers Heart & Vascular, Musculo-Skeletal and Women’s Services, Urology, Otolaryngology, Neurosurgery and Ophthalmology and Surgical Specialties. Additionally, Jay serves as the UMass Memorial System-wide Executive Leader for the Ambulatory ACCESS program.
Jay writes and speaks nationally on several nursing leadership topics including Emotional Intelligence for the Nurse Manager, Leadership options for nurse managers, Budgeting 101 for the Nurse Manager, Nursing Implications of an Aging Workforce and Strategic Planning for Nurse Leaders.
Most recently Jay was certified as an executive/corporate coach and is developing an in-house coaching service at UMass Memorial Healthcare.
