Ellen Abbott

Stroke Hero

Albany - Ellen Abbott Survivor

Just four days before Christmas in 2014, Ellen Abbott had a stroke as she was getting ready for work early in the morning.

Fortunately, she was able to get the attention of her husband, Wade, who recognized the symptoms of a stroke and immediately called 911.

Ellen, then 39 years old, spent three days in intensive care, anxious to get home to her two young sons in time for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, she returned home. Her sons describe this as “A Christmas Miracle.”

Ellen shares her story to increase awareness of strokes and their symptoms.

Ellen earned her bachelor’s degree at RPI and obtained a master’s degree in library science from the University at Albany. She currently works as a Library Clerk at the University at Albany.  She lives with her husband in Rotterdam, New York, along with their two sons, Timothy and Daniel.
