Why did I decide to ride for the American Heart/Stroke Association?
I participated in my first American Heart Association beach ride 4 years ago this November.
One of the biggest reason I ride to support the American Heart association is because of my grandpa Clyde "Pete" Showers. My grandpa is the person that got me into horses and mules. He underwent open heart surgery and had a plastic heart valve. So I decided to ride in his memory knowing that he is watching over all of us as we take part in the beach ride every fall.
Another reason I continue to ride and support the American Heart association is because of a certain little boy who's story I heard the first year I participated in the beach ride. On Saturday evening which is the last day of the beach ride we attend the awards ceremony where we also have a chance to meet and hear stories from people that have been touched by heart issues. Being their own or a family member.
This particular story and family has stayed close to my heart since hearing about it. The story of Stone Pope as stayed close to my heart and mind. Knowing not only adults but children and babies suffer life threatening heart issues.
I ride to raise awareness for friends and family that has been touched by heart issues or stroke. To continue to help raise money so the American Heart association can continue to help and support people affected by heart issues or stroke.
Did you know that women are 6 times likely to die from heart disease than breast cancer.
These are my reasons WHY I choose to ride and support the American Heart/Stroke Association.
Please consider making a donation to my personal fundraising page in honor or memory of a loved one.
Thank you for supporting American Heart Association. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
