The American Heart Association does amazing work to advance research that helps prevent, treat and cure heart disease and stroke. Almost two years ago, my dad was diagnosed with severe mitral valve prolapse - a heart valve condition that can lead to stroke or heart attack. He was completely asymptomatic, but was lucky enough to have a general practitioner who caught the condition during a routine physical.
Shortly after his diagnosis, my dad had open heart surgery to repair the issue with his valve. Thanks to advancements made possible by the research that the AHA funds, he was able to make a perfect recovery.
I'm proud and excited to be running for team Run With Heart to help raise funds to make the kind of care that my dad received possible.
