Please join me in my efforts to support the American Heart Association in memory of my Dad, Andre Suykerbuyk.
I'm excited to participate in my 3rd marathon this fall in Chicago and wish he could be there to cheer me on as he did for my brother in 2007.
As many of you are aware, I lost my dad almost 10 years ago this December. He was 59 years old and led an active lifestyle. There were no signs of any heart issues. However, while hiking in Arizona with my mom, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was unfairly taken from us. It was so sudden back then and even 10 years later I'm at a loss for words to express my grief.
Within a week from his death, his youngest sister Anna suffered a heart attack of her own which prompted my other Aunts to get a more thorough check of their hearts. Knowing this runs silently in my family, I've taken a more proactive approach to my health.
I never thought I would be a runner, but I've become very passionate last year while training for my 1st marathon (I ran my second this past April). However, I've always been passionate about my friends and family's health and that's why I'm joining the American Hearth Association's Running Team to raise money for research, treatment and prevention of cardiac disease.
I am commited to raising $1500 for the American Heart Association, but I know with the support of my friends and family I can raise more. A donation as small as a dollar a mile for my race ($26.20) will help in the efforts of this great cause.
Thank you everyone!!!!
