As most of you know I suffered a stroke in July, followed by a heart procedure this past November. Fortunately, my recovery has been steady and I expect to get most if not all of my functionality back in time. It was because of my CrossFit training and the excellent medical care that I received, that I am luckier than most. To increase stroke awareness my wife, Chris, my children, and I are raising money to run the Falmouth Road Race on August 19th as part of Tedy’s Team. Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke in February 2005 at the age of 31, just weeks after winning his third Super Bowl and days after returning from playing in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. As he recovered, Tedy committed himself to being an advocate, spokesperson, and inspiration for stroke survivors in our area. Tedy asked the American Stroke Association to work with him to create “Tedy’s Team,” a group of runners raising money for the American Stroke Association and training to complete the Boston Marathon® and the Falmouth Road Race. Their participation supports Tedy Bruschi’s fight against stroke and honors both the survivors and the loved ones lost to America’s No. 5 leading cause of death. Tedy wrote about his stroke and recovery and it became my “manual” and aided with my recovery and rehabilitation.
