My mother, Rose Gravely is a heart attack survivor. It was on Christmas Eve 2014 that my mom was working hard getting everything ready for our Christmas Eve dinner. She had known for several days that she wasn't feeling well and even suspected that she was having a heart attack...but she wouldn't let anyone know, because she wanted to make sure she was taking care of everyone else, as she always does. She didn't want to be in the hospital for Christmas Eve and didn't want to ruin everyone else's Christmas. We almost lost her that day...none of us had any idea how serious her heart attack was. I had to call my brother, who is an EMT, and get him to convince her to let me take her to the hospital. When she got to the hospital, the medication they gave her had her acting Goofy and silly, and because of that we still did not know how serious her situation was. I only knew how serious it was when they were immediately flying her to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
I almost lost my mom that day....many women do not even realize they are having a heart attack. They said she was having this heart attack over several days period, and being the mother she is...always thinking of others before herself, she had no idea just how serious her situation was. I would like everyone to take the time to familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heart attack and especially women, please don't hesitate to get yourself checked if you even think your are having symptoms.
If I had not pushed my mom to go to the hospital, she would not be here today...
