I was born into a "heart family." I didn't have a choice. We are a package deal.
A year and a half before I was born my brother, Charlie, was born with only half of his heart. He had two open heart surgeries in the first three months of his life.
When I was born, I had to undergo extra testing and evaluations because of Charlie's congenital heart defect. Luckily, nothing was out of the ordinary and I was cleared medically. Then when I was 9 months old, my pediatrician heard a murmur during a routine appointment. It was back to the cardiologist to make sure nothing had been missed during the first several tests. I lucked out again with a clean bill of health.
My brother has since had another open heart surgery. He's doing great! But there are so many kids like him who struggle....there just isn't enough funding for research and studies for congenital heart defects. So I'm raising money to change that!
