Our Goal
Days Remaining

Team Rebecca

For starters we want to thank everyone for taking the time to check o out team page and hopefully sponsor us. The goal of this team is help save lives of everyone born with CHD.  Every little bit helps and we are very appreciative of any support we can get.   It's people like you that are saving lives and keeping people like Rebecca alive!

She has had 3 heart surgeries, 1974, 1994 and 1997.  She has Tetralogy of Fallot and Pulmonary atresia, and Pulmonary Hypertension.

Her surgery in 1974 was a Blalock-Taussing shunt.  It increased the amount of blood reaching her lungs but her doctor had to tell her family that there was no cure, but perhaps in 20 years.

In 1994 - 20 years later she was headed to  Boston Children's Hospital. She was given a choice of  having Open Heart Surgery or just remain as she was.  We were told that her mortality rate was 1-2% and her life span was shortened to 10 years.

In 1997 she underwent another Open Heart surgery to repair the patch that was used.  It was discovered  that patch had pulled stitches and it was to close to the aorta to use a clamshell (cardioseal).

2016 she ran into another issue, the thought that perhaps the conduit  needed replacing or possible stents.  Turned out  because of the gap between 1974 and 1994 there was some other damage done and she now has Pulmonary Hypertension as well.  But because of research and technology instead of surgery or being told there is nothing we can do. She takes this  new medication once a day and it seems to be  working.

Like we said  Team Rebecca's goal is to make sure the next person doesn't have to wait 20 years like she did and slowly that goal is becoming a reality.  CHD is being discovered and repaired in babies before they are a year old and we love that.

Just remember every little bit  helps!

    Team Rebecca.
