Welcome to my Woman of Impact Donation Page!
I’m proud to be on a team of changemakers making a real impact on the state of women’s health! Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement’s Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that. We’re raising much-needed funds for Go Red for Women and working to improve the health of our communities - to ensure every woman has an equitable opportunity to live a long and healthy life.
The statistics surrounding women, especially Black women, and heart disease are not just shocking—they're alarming. As a Black woman who is part of the 58% with high blood pressure, I understand these challenges firsthand. Fortunately, with medical assistance, my condition is under control. This personal journey has taught me several critical facts:
- Over 40% of African Americans are affected by high blood pressure, which tends to be more severe and develop earlier compared to other demographics.
- Early diagnosis and treatment significantly enhance quality of life and reduce mortality risks.
- Research suggests a genetic factor may make African Americans more sensitive to salt, exacerbating the risk of high blood pressure. Even an extra half teaspoon of salt can have a noticeable impact on those with this genetic predisposition.
These insights underscore the urgent need for continued research, heightened awareness, and robust education. As a 2024 Woman of Impact, I am committed to spotlighting cardiovascular disease—the number one killer of women—and motivating them to prioritize their heart health. My mission is to encourage women to seize the day and their lives by taking proactive steps for their heart health and supporting other women in their lives to do the same. Together, we can change these statistics and save lives.
We are fighting for better representation in medical research. Fighting for equitable access to care and treatments. Fighting to spread lifesaving information to our sisters.
It’s not just about wearing red. It’s not just about sharing heart health facts. It’s about all of us making a commitment to stand together with Go Red for Women in the fight for heart-health equality.
The time is now. When we take a stand and work together, real change is possible. Are you with me? To support my campaign, click the Donate button.
