Did you know...
Only 1 in every 6 individuals that suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survive? And that heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the United States?
As the incidence of cardiac disease in our nation rises, this statistic provides a grim outlook for the future of America. Unfortunately, as a bedside critical care nurse, I've seen that death from all types of heart disease is the reality for too many people. As healthcare providers, we're committed to educating the community in performing CPR and the importance of preventing and treating heart disease.
On September 21st, colleagues of mine and I from our CVICU Open Heart Team will be participating in the AHA heart walk here in Nashville, Tennessee. We walk for all those who are currently fighting cardiovascular disease, those who have survived cardiac events, and those who have lost the battle to heart disease. The consequences of cardiovascular disease are all too real for us CV nurses that face it head on everyday. We hold family members' hands when their loved one cannot survive despite our best efforts and we shed tears alongside them for those gone too soon. The battle against heart disease is more than just a job for us, it is a passion. Our CVICU team works everyday to help provide others with a new lease on life after undergoing open heart surgery. As CV nurses, we walk our patients through the recovery process and tirelessly support them on their journey. Thankfully, we are able to help provide so many with second chances and additional time cherished with their loved ones. The wins definitely overpower the loses, & that's why we do what we do.
I ask for your support for my team and I as we participate in the AHA walk and fight the battle against heart disease each day. Please support us with your prayers, kind thoughts, and if possible a financial gift using the link below. Thank you so much in advance! And thank you for trusting my colleagues and I to provide you and your loved ones with the best possible CVICU care. Being a nurse is so much more than just a job, it is who we are!
