I’m excited to be nominated for the American Heart Association's Leaders of Impact campaign. As part of this year’s class of changemakers, I’m dedicated to making a lasting impact on the health of our community and hope that I can count on your support!​

Jenny Kay Nelson gave her entire life to her children, ensuring we were happy and healthy. She was the strongest woman I know; I pray I can be half the mom and woman she was.

I love the olfactory memories of Estée Lauder, giant cookies and coke, Thrifty’s ice cream, library adventures and shopping at the art store. My mom taught me how to be a strong woman, a loving mother, a kind person and a Christian. Mom gave me the courage to go for my dreams. Mom helped me understand when to care about other’s thoughts and when to realize it doesn't matter. Mom gave me beautiful poetry books that brought peace during life's tuff moments. Mom would pick up the phone and talk to me for 5 mins or 2 hours. Thank you for being the mom every child deserves.

Jenny Kay Nelson is my "WHY."

Over the past 27 years I have helped our community and nonprofits important to Denver by donating my time to emcee galas and events. This will be the first time I turn to our community to ask for help raising awareness and money for the America Heart Association to honor my Mom, Jenny Kay Nelson, who passed away last December after suffering several strokes.

My mom's goal was to pull her grandkids in a "little red wagon" at the Denver Zoo, which was funny to us all because her grandkids are in their 20's or older. As a motivator, my husband bought my mom a little miniature red wagon that was sitting next to her on a table. She would look at that little red wagon and then try to do exercises to help her walk again. Unfortunately, that moment never happened. Before my mom's passing, two strokes left her unable to walk or stand.
