In previous years I have written about the cardiac related health issues experienced by our family including hypertenion, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, cardio myopathy, sudden cardiac arrest, heart attacks, stent placements, pacemakers, and implantable defibrillators.

New this year, Mike S suffered a heart attack and required emergency stenting and Kim's failing mitral valve needed replacing. We could never have imagined that an elective mitral valve replacement surgery would be followed by 95 days in the ICU (and still counting), more than two dozen surgeries and procedures, and more units of blood and platelets than we can count. Ultimately Kim has received both heart and kidney transplants.

The stress of this past Summer has reminded us all that participation in fundraising walks and donations contribute to CPR training and medical research that support lifesaving efforts.
