I was born in Bosnia during the Bosnian war with congenital heart disease. At that time, access to medical care was extremely limited, and my family didn’t know what my future would hold. Thanks to the kindness of others, I was able to come to the United States as a child to receive the heart surgery that saved my life.
Later, my family and I came to the U.S. as refugees, where we were given the chance to start over. I carry both my Bosnian roots and my journey of survival with me every day. Living with congenital heart disease has taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of giving back.
Today, I walk for the American Heart Association to honor my own journey, to raise awareness for congenital heart disease, and to support life-saving research and programs that make it possible for stories like mine to exist.
I walk with hope for every child born with a heart defect, for every family fighting for care, and for a future where healthier hearts mean longer, fuller lives.
This cause is deeply personal to me, and I am so grateful for your support. Every step, every donation, and every show of encouragement means the world.
