When you think of Mike Wait, it’s impossible not to smile. For everyone who knew him, Mike wasn’t just a friend; he was family. He was the life of the party, the one who could light up any room with his infectious energy and boundless enthusiasm. He had the unique ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and cared for, whether you were a lifelong friend or a stranger he’d just met.
Mike was the arms behind the best hugs, the laughter that echoed through any gathering, and the person you could always count on. You never had to wonder if Mike was going to show up – he was there, front and center, ready to embrace whatever came his way with his trademark smile and sense of humor. He might make the most off-the-wall comments, but you knew he was doing it just to get you to laugh, to keep the mood light, and to spread joy. It was that sense of authenticity and love that made him unforgettable.
Sadly, Mike’s life was cut short far too soon, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. This year, we’re walking in honor of Mike and all those whose lives have been impacted by heart disease. The American Heart Association’s mission to fight heart disease and stroke is personal to us now more than ever, as we remember Mike’s generous spirit and unwavering friendship.
In Mike’s honor, his nephew Everest took part in raising money for this cause, sharing that fundraising for the American Heart Association was his favorite part of second grade. Mike’s heart for others, his genuine care, and his love for life have inspired us all, and Everest’s involvement is a reminder of the ripple effect Mike had on everyone around him.
Heading into this walk, our family has come together with a shared mission: to honor Mike and, in doing so, hopefully make a difference for others. We miss him every single day, but we try to remember the most important lesson Mike taught us: to live fully, to embrace the moments, and to always spread kindness and laughter wherever we go. We try, as best as we can, to be like Mike.
Your support of the American Heart Association walk means so much. It’s more than just a walk – it’s a chance to carry forward Mike’s legacy, to raise awareness about heart disease, and to help ensure that no one has to say goodbye to someone they love too soon. Mike would have been the first to sign up, to rally the troops, and to walk with us – with his bright smile and his heart full of love.
We invite you to join us in walking for Mike. Your donation helps fund life-saving research, education, and programs that can save lives. Together, we can honor Mike’s memory and fight for a world where heart disease is no longer the leading cause of death.
Thank you for your support. Every step we take is a step closer to a world where more lives are saved, and fewer families have to experience the pain of losing someone too soon.
