Why We Walk
2020 Virtual Heart Mini (downtown event cancelled)
This year, The UCMC Trauma Department is walking to support Austin Menninger, son of UCMC associate and Trauma Prevention and Outreach Coordinator, Gina Menninger. Austin was diagnosed with Hypo Plastic Right Heart Syndrome, Tricuspid and Pulmonary Atresia at 20 weeks’ gestation, and born with just the left side of his heart developed. Due to this, Austin had surgery at just 6 days old and then again at 4 months old.
Austin is now 3 years old and doing great but is gearing up for his THIRD open heart surgery this spring of 2020! Austin has endured lots of doctor appointments, overnight hospital stays, needle sticks, EKGs, ECHOs and much more. Looking at Austin, you would never know!
Austin would not be where he is today without all the support from you! Your contribution will be used to help fund the ongoing research for pediatric and adult Heart Disease. Please help us celebrate Austin’s many successes as he continues to fight his battle toward a long and healthy life!
