Team Connor - Go with the Fallot
Saving and improving lives can be as simple as taking a walk. And I know I'm making a difference in the lives of others by participating in the Heart Walk.
1 in 100 babies are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD), 25% of those babies, like Connor, will require a life-saving surgery by the age of 1.
Connor was born with the critical congenital heart defect Tetralogy of Fallot and a PFO (a total of 5 heart defects). He was in heart failure before he was 2 weeks old. With the help of cardiac medications and an NG tube we were able to get him to 4 months old and just shy of 15lbs before his condition was no longer stable enough to wait. On March 25, 2020, as the COVID19 pandemic was wrecking havic in hospitals, Connor underwent open heart surgery at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital to repair his TOF (he still has a PFO). The surgery was a success and gave him the chance to grow up. I will never stop advocating or spreading awareness of CHD. Did you know CHDs kill more children every year then all other childhood illnesses and cancers combined?
As a cardiac RN, hearts hold a special place in ... well my heart. But it's not just my efforts alone that will one day help us see a world with less congenital heart defects and more precise, uninvasive treatments. I am walking with a team of heart hero's because together, we will have an even greater impact. And you can help us change the world, one step at a time, by donating to my fundraiser.
Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that keeps hearts beating and helps people enjoy longer, healthier lives. I can't do it alone.
Please help me now by donating. Because every step counts. And together we are helping save lives!
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today! Because together we can make a difference! ❤
