I'm proud to be a Leaders of Impact Nominee
I'm excited to be nominated for the Leaders of Impact campaign this year. As part of this year's class of changemakers, I'm dedicated to making a lasting impact on the health of our community and hope that I can count on your support!
Despite many advances, cardiovascular disease is still the No.1 killer in the US. And while approximately 80% of cardiovascular disease could be prevented through a healthy diet, physical activity, a healthy weight, not smoking, controlled blood pressure, diabetes, and lipid levels - the disparities in access to care, nutrition, and healthy environments make achieving these goals far too difficult for far too many people. That's why I am committed to being a part of this relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

Greater Washington Leaders of Impact Fall 2023

Participating in Leaders of Impact is personally important to me because I am an active, married, working mother of two who thought I was experiencing intense acid reflux on October 5, 2022, during a Mothers' Club meeting at her son’s high school. Fortunately I was convinced, by one of the moms who is a nurse practitioner, to go to the ER where the doctors discovered that I experienced a SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection) which caused a heart attack. Several tests were run during my four (4) day hospital stay, that determined that I did not have any clogged arteries, no cholesterol issues, no underlying conditions other than hypertension and no family history of heart disease. SCAD survivors are usually young, active, healthy women because unlike a “traditional” heart attack, caused by a blockage due to plaque buildup over a lifetime, SCAD is a completely distinct and different artery blockage resulting from a tear in the lining of an artery wall caused by stress and hormones.
I’ve seen and experienced the devastating effects of heart disease. You have an opportunity to help support my efforts and shape the health of our community, as well as support the innovative research, and bold initiatives of the American Heart Association that save and improve lives. The American Heart Association truly measures success in longer, healthier lives. By leveraging the strengths of this organization and mobilizing leaders across our community, together we can truly make an impact and ensure that every member of our community will have the greatest opportunity to lead their best life.
