Almost everyone knows someone who has dealt with cardiovascular disease or stroke. People in the US die from complications of this all the time.
For me, it's very personal. As many know, I was a totally healthy 57 year old when I had a massive stroke in October, 2019 which turned my life and the lives of my family totally upside down. My 25+ year career as an anesthesiologist, caring for patients having surgery or other procedures, came to an abrupt halt. While I was lucky and grateful to survive, I know it was because of life-saving interventions which were only possible due to years of research and innovation. I have been lucky enough to make significant but incomplete recovery in the past 7 years. It's time for me to give back.
So I've become active in the American Heart Association in WNY. This year, I'm participating in CycleNation again, and hope to have a bigger impact. My wish is that those who are able to participate join my team, Kathy's Krew and cycle (indoors) on Nov 15th. For those unable to join me in person, I hope you will consider donating to this very personal and important cause.
