Almost every one of us knows someone who has been affected by stroke and heart disease - which claim far too many lives. I recently had an Uncle experience a stroke and it emphasized the need for continued research, education and action steps necessary to improve outcomes.
I also have the pleasure of working with some of the leading heart, neurosurgery, endovascular, vascular surgeons, and neurologists in the country, and it's incredible to see the progress made in this field in just the last 30 years!!
Now is our chance to make a difference! The reality of heart disease is that it strikes quickly and without regard to the individual. It is easy to think it will only strike the person that is overweight, or the person that doesn't work out, or the elderly. The reality is that it impacts everyone and it's time to ensure appropriate research and funding is done to improve outcomes.
