My grandmother, Phyllis Weissblum, underwent surgery at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, at the age of thirteen, to repair a congenital heart defect. As my grandmother got older, her heart weakened. She has lived much of her life with a pacemaker/defibrillator. In addition to these devices, the medications she received kept her heart from weakening until the age of 72 when she was admitted to NYU Langone Health. At this point she received a heart transplant. My family and I are so grateful for the precious gift she received in the year 2019. My grandmother has taught her family to always keep fighting. Now at the age of 75, my grandmother is continuing to embrace life; cherishing each and every experience with her family and friends.
