Why I Go Red: Honoring My Mom
Welcome to my personal fundraising page for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign.
I am raising funds this year for a reason that is very close to my heart: my mother Maureen Ryan Sousa.
Many people know that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, but what we don’t talk about enough is how cardiovascular health affects the brain. My mom passed away from vascular dementia—a heartbreaking condition caused by reduced blood flow to the brain. It took away her memories, her independence, and eventually, her life.
I’ve joined the Go Red for Women movement to ensure that more daughters, mothers, and sisters have the resources they need to protect their heart and brain health. Cardiovascular disease is 80% preventable, and by raising awareness and funds, we can:
Fund Groundbreaking Research: Support studies into the link between heart health and cognitive decline.
Education: Help women recognize the unique warning signs of heart disease and stroke.
Advocacy: Ensure equitable access to healthcare for all women.
How You Can Help
I have set a goal to raise $1000 to honor my mom’s legacy. Every dollar donated goes directly to the American Heart Association to fuel their life-saving work.
If you aren't able to donate, please consider sharing this page or simply taking a moment to learn about your own "Life’s Essential 8" cardiovascular health factors.
Thank you for supporting me, for honoring my mom, and for helping us build a world where we lose fewer loved ones to cardiovascular disease.
The time is now. Are you with me? To support my campaign, click the Donate button.
