My Why for Accepting the 2025 Women of Impact Nomination
I am deeply honored to accept the 2025 nomination for Women of Impact with the American Heart Association. This journey is personal for me-heart disease runs in my family, and I have witnessed firsthand the devastating effects it can have on those we love.
In 2024, I was diagnosed with left ventricular hypertrophy, cardiomegaly, essential primary hypertension, and invasive ductal carcinoma. These diagnoses were a wake-up call, reinforcing the importance of heart health and overall well-being. Through education, exercise, and dietary changes, I have committed to living a healthier life-not just for myself, but for my family, friends, and community.
My passion for this cause also stems from my experiences as a caregiver. I stood by my mother-in-law as she battled heart disease, supporting her through the challenges of her condition until we lost her to COVID-19, exacerbated by her heart and lung disease. I also witnessed my dear friend and co-worker suffer a stroke at just 42 years old, and I watched in awe as she courageously fought to regain her strength.
These experiences have solidified my mission: to advocate, educate, and empower others to take control of their heart health. Life is why. Education is why. Love for self, family, and friends is why.
By accepting this nomination, I hope to inspire others to prioritize their health, support those facing similar battles, and work toward a future where heart disease is no longer the leading cause of death. Together, we can make an impact-one heartbeat at a time.
