I'm proud to be on a team of changemakers making a real impact on the state of women's health. Hearts in Motion is a team that led by an amazing woman (Arnita Deshields) sharing a vision to fulfill a mission “committed to education, advocacy, awareness, and meaningful action around heart health”.
Like many Americans I have been personally affected by disparities in healthcare in regard to women. This campaign is very personal to me; I am blessed to participate as my grandmother passed away from stoke related complications. She lived with congested heart failure for the greater portion of her later years of life. As a clinical professional, I help families in a plethora of ways. I know the staple of many families is the matriarch, who holds the family together with love sharing traditions and wisdom. Too many families have been impacted by losing the “glue” that holds them together too soon. Let's actively work together to close the gap through awareness and engaging in collaborative efforts to improve lifestyle and healthcare practices.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement's Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that.
Heart disease unfairly targets women, who have been left out of research, testing, treatment and funding. Women have been underrepresented, undertreated and undercounted. But it doesn't have to be this way. Because there's one source of support women can always count on - each other.
Together, we can engage more women in research. We can fight for access to care and treatments. And we can be a catalyst to create health solutions with women's unique health needs in mind, supporting them through every age, stage and season of life.
It's not just about wearing red. It's not just about sharing heart health facts. It's about all women connecting and committing to stand together against our greatest health threat. I am appreciative to have been invited to share the opportunity of improving the health of my fellow women including my own. I am available to assist and collaborate with individuals who are interested in healthy lifestyle initiatives. I plan to share my passion, experience, and skillset to improve and change the outcomes of women losing their lives to this “silent killer” Regular collaboration with your healthcare provider(s) partnered with self-management techniques (SMT) can make an impact resulting in improved overall wellness.
