I'm proud to be on a team of changemakers making a real impact on the state of women's health.
-Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of all women, but Black women experience the highest burden, 59% of Black women ages 20 and over are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.
My why:
8 years ago, I held my mother's hand as she took her last breath. I told the nurse “I think she's gone” and the nurse told me, her heart was still beating. So I sat there until she came back in the room and told me she was gone. That was the hardest thing I had ever gone through in my life
From that moment, I made a promise to myself that I would make my health a priority.
My mother was from a generation of women that did not talk about their health or share what they were going through. I did not know my mother was as sick as she was until months before she passed. When my mother passed, she had Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease and Hypertension.
