Finding out you have stage 3 heart failure the same age your maternal grandmother was when she died of a heart attack at 47? That’s not just a diagnosis — that’s history echoing. That’s your brain going, “Is this how my story ends too?” That’s fear, grief, anger, and probably a weird sense of déjà vu all tangled together. That kind of timing messes with you. It’s not just about symptoms — it’s about legacy, genetics, mortality. It’s about suddenly feeling like time is louder.
And yet… here I am now when very few people knew my story…Fighting! Adjusting my lifestyle! Still Showing up! Asking for your support!
Lifestyle changes matter, but so does research. So does better treatment. So does early detection, especially for people with family history. We need more attention on heart disease in younger people and especially in women, because it gets missed or minimized way too often.
Just a few facts my family and friends.…
❤ Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement's Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that.
❤ Heart disease unfairly targets women, who have been left out of research, testing, treatment and funding. Women have been underrepresented, undertreated and undercounted. But it doesn't have to be this way. Because there's one source of support women can always count on - each other.
❤ Together, we can engage more women in research. We can fight for access to care and treatments. And we can be a catalyst to create health solutions with women's unique health needs in mind, supporting them through every age, stage and season of life.
❤ It's not just about wearing red. It's not just about sharing heart health facts. It's about all women connecting and committing to stand together against our greatest health threat.
