Heart disease has impacted my life in ways I will never forget-That's why I'm honored to be part of Team Heart Pace Queens, raising awareness and funds for the American Heart Association from February 6, 2026 through April 6, 2026.
The Black communities continue to face a disproportionately higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and hypertension. In fact, nearly 59% of Black women ages 20 and older are living with cardiovascular disease, the highest burden of any group. Knowing this means we must advocate for ourselves, know our numbers, and prioritize regular heart screenings.
For me, this mission is deeply personal.
More than 20 years ago, I lost my father to heart disease. Watching a series of heart attacks and mini-strokes slowly change his life was devastating. Beyond the physical effects, heart disease stripped him of his independence. A once vibrant, dapper man full of life became dependent on around-the-clock care. I truly believe the loss of self-sufficiency broke his spirit. Heart disease didn't just take his life-it changed all of ours.
Life is my WHY.
In celebration of my Birthday, I'm inviting 54 people to commit to moving with me for 32 days (February 6 - March 11, 2026). During this time, I will be running, walking, or cycling at least one mile every day.
My ask is simple:
- Join me by moving your body
- Share this message to raise awareness
- And if you're able, make a donation to support life-saving research, education, and advocacy through the American Heart Association
Every step, every dollar, and every conversation helps save lives.
Thank you for supporting me, this cause, and healthier futures for our families and communities.
With gratitude,
Dimitria
