I'm proud to be on a team of changemakers making a real impact on the state of women's health.
In 2018 my beautiful mother Dixie Rose Barone suffered a stroke where she developed a small hole in her brain which changed her life and the lives of our family forever. This amazing woman raised two children by herself for many years. We didn't have much, but we had love & that was enough. Mamsita, as we called her, had a heart of gold and a fantastic sense of humor. Those that truly knew her can tell you that she was a "one of a kind" spark plug. Unfortunately, for those that don't know, stroke is not always a one & done. The effects are everlasting. Educating yourself & being aware of the signs are crucial and can be life saving. Over the course of several years following, Dixie suffered a series of mini stokes which eventually contributed to her decline. In June of 2024 at age 68 my beautiful mother passed away. Our family was devastated. How could this happen? My world was shattered. The most important person in my life was taken from me way too early. Heart disease and stroke are no joke. We need to educate ourselves & become aware of the signs before it's too late. I joined this campaign because "Life is Why" Don't let the most important people in your life leave this earth without a fighting chance.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement's Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that.
