WHY I AM FUNDRAISING
I'm excited to be participating in the American Heart Association's Women of Impact campaign because heart disease is not just a statistic to me-it is deeply personal. I have known and loved many women who have suffered from heart disease and heart attacks, and I have witnessed firsthand how devastating and life-altering these moments can be.
A couple years ago, I witnessed my own mother experience a mini-stroke right in front of me. At the time, we didn't fully understand what was happening or know the warning signs to look for. I also watched my late mother-in-law suffer multiple strokes, often with little clarity or warning. What we didn't know then could have made all the difference. Those moments marked the beginning of the end for her and left a lasting impact on our entire family-one that will never fade.
To top it off, in 2023, my mother was also diagnosed with heart disease in addition to her mini-stroke and other serious health issues. I have now seen two matriarchs in my life face this reality-one who survived and one who did not. To say it's been a tough few years is truly an understatement.
These experiences showed me how critical education, awareness, and early intervention truly are-especially for women, whose symptoms are often misunderstood, overlooked, or dismissed. I am standing with the American Heart Association to help ensure that more women recognize the warning signs, advocate for their health, and receive the care they deserve.
This campaign is my way of honoring the women I love, fighting for the women who are still here, and helping prevent other families from experiencing the same confusion, fear, and loss. This is MY WHY-and it is why this mission matters so deeply to me.
DID YOU KNOW?
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and The American Heart Association's Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that.
Heart disease unfairly targets women, who have been left out of research, testing, treatment and funding. Women have been underrepresented, undertreated and undercounted. But it doesn't have to be this way. Because there's one source of support women can always count on - each other.
Together, we can engage more women in research. We can fight for access to care and treatments. And we can be a catalyst to create health solutions with women's unique health needs in mind, supporting them through every age, stage and season of life.
It's not just about wearing red. It's not just about sharing heart health facts. It's about all women connecting and committing to stand together against our greatest health threat.
