Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement’s Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that.
As a pediatrician who has practiced in South Mississippi for almost 30 years, I have cared for so many babies through the years with congenital heart disease. The American Heart Association is committed to infant heart health and is also committed to improving the cardiovascular health of moms before, during, and after delivery. Sadly, Mississippi leads the nation in infant mortality and maternal mortality and many pregnancy-related deaths are caused by cardiomyopathy, stroke, and hypertension.
It’s not just about wearing red. It’s not just about sharing heart health facts. It’s about all women connecting and committing to stand together against our greatest health threat.
