My wife, Dr. Toniya Farmer, is a heart attack survivor whose journey is defined by courage, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to life. Surviving a heart attack didn't just change her health-it changed her perspective. While the physical recovery was challenging, learning to live with the fear that followed was an even greater test. Like many survivors, she carries the quiet weight of "what if," yet she chooses every day to move forward with strength and grace.
Through her experience, my wife has become a living reminder that heart disease doesn't end with survival-it reshapes lives. She courageously shares her story to bring awareness to the emotional and mental toll heart attack survivors face, particularly for women whose symptoms and risks are often overlooked. As a proud advocate for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement, she helps amplify the message that heart disease is the leading cause of death in women and that education, early action, and self-advocacy save lives.
As a Woman of Impact nominee, my wife embodies the mission of the American Heart Association by transforming a life-altering experience into purpose and advocacy. Her strength, vulnerability, and leadership inspire other women, survivors, and families to prioritize heart health, speak up, and believe in life beyond a heart attack.
