My Story: From Survivor to Advocate – Why This Mission Matters
One night during my freshman year at Xavier University of Louisiana, I woke up in my dorm room with what can only be described as the worst headache of my life. I had no idea I was having a stroke.
An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) rupture in my brain had changed my life in an instant. Thanks to the swift action of my college roommates and my healthcare team, I am here today to tell this story—but the journey has not been without challenges. That stroke led to an epilepsy diagnosis, a condition I still live with today.
But here’s what I know: lifestyle changes can save lives. Through healthy eating, exercise, and diligent self-care, I am seizure-free and living life to the FULLEST.
But not everyone gets the same chance.
❤ Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
❤ Heart disease and stroke don’t just affect individuals—they impact families, communities, and generations.
❤ Women are still underrepresented in research, overlooked in treatment, and too often left out of funding.
But we can change this.
This campaign isn’t just about wearing red or sharing heart health facts—it’s about action. It’s about fighting for equitable access to care, increasing women’s representation in research, and ensuring that every woman has the tools to prevent, manage, and overcome heart disease and stroke.
I am super proud of my amazing team of changemakers - Team Heart & Soul - who share my passion for this mission. Together, we can make an IMPACT!
