My why is personal, lived, and ongoing. Heart disease is not something I learned about from a brochure or awareness month. It is something that stopped me in my tracks and reshaped how I move through the world. I have sat in doctor’s offices asking hard questions, learned to listen to my body in new ways, and faced the reality that heart disease does not look the same for women as it does for men.
Because of early detection, access to care, and continued research, I am still here. I get to run, work, laugh, lead, and live a full life. That is not luck. That is science, education, and advocacy at work.
Through my Impact campaign supporting Go Red for Women with the American Heart Association, I am raising critical funds to advance women’s heart health. Women remain underdiagnosed, under-researched, and less likely to receive timely treatment. I am using my voice and my story to help change that. If this campaign helps even one woman get the care she deserves, it is worth every step.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement's Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that.
Heart disease unfairly targets women, who have been left out of research, testing, treatment and funding. Women have been underrepresented, undertreated and undercounted. But it doesn't have to be this way. Because there's one source of support women can always count on - each other.
Together, we can engage more women in research. We can fight for access to care and treatments. And we can be a catalyst to create health solutions with women's unique health needs in mind, supporting them through every age, stage and season of life.
It's not just about wearing red. It's not just about sharing heart health facts. It's about all women connecting and committing to stand together against our greatest health threat.
