My name is Anjali D’Souza, and I am a student at Eastside Catholic High School. I was nominated as one of six teens in the state to be a 2025 Teen of Impact for the American Heart Association and couldn’t be more excited. I am honored to be nominated, and to be able to use my voice to make an impact. I strongly believe in educating others that knowledge is power and simple lifestyle changes can lead to improved overall health. Throughout the Teen of Impact campaign, I will make a difference by encouraging other teens and members of the community to take charge of their heath!
The issue of heart health is deeply personal for me. Firstly, I am a very active teenager doing over 20 hours of physical activity each week, I know many people don’t have access or resources to do this which can result in heart problems. My sport keeps me healthy, and I would love to reach out and share awareness on how to stay healthy/get help with others. Next, I love learning about the human body and the many ways it works, but I also enjoy helping people recover because I’ve needed that help myself too. Subsequently, I would love to be an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine when I grow up. This also comes from my Grandpa, who passed away recently, he suffered with heart problems that in the long run caught up to him. Lastly, giving back to your community is the ultimate way to not only help others but help yourself become a better and more knowledgeable person.
