I'm proud to be on a team of changemakers making a real impact on the state of women's health.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement's Woman of Impact campaign is working to change that.
Heart disease unfairly targets women, who have been left out of research, testing, treatment and funding. Women have been underrepresented, undertreated and undercounted. But it doesn't have to be this way. Because there's one source of support women can always count on - each other.
Together, we can engage more women in research. We can fight for access to care and treatments. And we can be a catalyst to create health solutions with women's unique health needs in mind, supporting them through every age, stage and season of life.
It's not just about wearing red. It's not just about sharing heart health facts. It's about all women connecting and committing to stand together against our greatest health threat.
Why I’m Participating
Heart disease has shaped my life in more ways than one.
Both of my parents lived with heart disease, and I grew up watching how quietly—but relentlessly—it affects not just the person diagnosed, but everyone who loves them. Later in life, my professional work brought me even closer to this reality. Through my role at VITAS, I witness patients and families navigating advanced heart failure every day, often during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Several years ago, this mission became deeply personal when I experienced multiple small strokes myself. I was incredibly fortunate to recover without lasting deficits—but the experience was a powerful reminder of how fragile life can be, and how important prevention, education, and early intervention truly are.
That’s why I said yes to the American Heart Association’s Women of Impact campaign.
From February 7 through April 10, I am dedicating myself to raising awareness and funds for the lifesaving research, education, and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association and the Go Red for Women movement. This campaign is about acting before it’s too late—so fewer families have to hear the words, “We wish we had known sooner.”
I’m participating in honor of the patients Vitas has cared for, the loved ones I’ve lost, and the moments that have shaped me. My hope is that together, we can help ensure more people have the opportunity to live longer, healthier lives—and that heart disease and stroke no longer define so many families’ stories.
