5 years ago during the winter of 2021, my grandmother passed away from a cardiac arrest. For years leading up to this, she struggled with many health complications related to her dementia, which meant that many of her organs were also a part of the battle: including the heart. This kickstarted my interest in the crossroads between psychiatry, neurology, and cardiology. Also coming from a black, immigrant household, health equity is something that is dear to my heart.
Having the proper education, promotion, skills and care for heart health is essential to lead, happier, securer lives when it comes to our health, which is why I'm proud to be part of a team of changemakers taking action through the American Heart Association's Teen of Impact campaign. Heart disease can affect anyone, but together we can change that.
The American Heart Association is making a future of longer, healthier lives a reality through groundbreaking research, education, advocacy and access to care. Your support powers this mission.
Your gift isn't just a donation, it's a lifeline. It's more than CPR training in schools, healthier meals in communities and new research that will save lives. Every donation fuels lifesaving work and builds stronger, healthier communities.
