I'm proud to be a Leaders of Impact Nominee
I'm excited to be nominated for the Leaders of Impact campaign this year. As part of this year's class of changemakers, I'm dedicated to making a lasting impact on the health of our community and hope that I can count on your support!
Despite many advances, cardiovascular disease is still the No.1 killer in the US. And while approximately 80% of cardiovascular disease could be prevented through a healthy diet, physical activity, a healthy weight, not smoking, controlled blood pressure, diabetes, and lipid levels - the disparities in access to care, nutrition, and healthy environments make achieving these goals far too difficult for far too many people. That's why I am committed to being a part of this relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

Capital Region NY Leaders of Impact Fall 2025
Moira E. Galuski
I'm excited to be nominated for the American Heart Associations Leaders of Impact campaign. As the first and only student in the nation to serve in this role. I am extremely honored to have this opportunity.
It's All About Having A Great Team
Just like every sport I play, I can't do this alone. I would like to be surrounded by wonderful individuals who share in this passion to raise awareness, education and opportunities.
I applied to be a Leader of Impact in memory of a basketball legend and fantastic man, Rich Gilooly - my best friend Kate's dad. A husband and dad who left this world way too young, at the age 38.
My Why
Rich was a well-known legend in the basketball world. A remarkable player for Catholic Central High School and Union College. Rich was an even more impactful coach. He served countless student athletes, taking the position of head coach, to inspire players to reach their highest potential at Hudson Valley Community College, Shalmont High School, Catholic Central High School, Bishop Maginn and as an assistant coach at RPI.
I proudly share the court with Coach Gilooly?s #1 player, his daughter Kate, my friend and teammate, I know the legacy he has left behind and I see it - I see it firsthand in every basket she hits, every shot she blocks, every rebound she grabs and especially, in every charge she takes.
I Get It?
As someone who remains under the care of a physician at Boston Children?s Hospital, together we keep an eye out for symptoms of hypertension, a potential risk post my transplant surgery. Because of my own journey, I am more aware of the importance of cardiac education and healthy choices as a young athletes. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can strike anyone, including children, teens, and healthy adults. It is the #1 cause of death among student-athletes, claiming over 9,500 young lives annually. 25% of adults treated by EMS had no symptoms before arrest.
With a significant increase in cardiac events in young, physically fit student athletes, we all need to be aware of the warning signs and how to be prepared as a teammate, a coach and a referee.
Let's Get Trained
Through The American Heart Association we can receive CPR Certification and have necessary training and access to an AED. I would like to lobby , that every high school student, prior to their graduation, have the opportunity to take these lifesaving classes.
JOIN MY TEAM
I am honored to be an American Heart Association Leader of Impact to ensure the legacy of Coach Rich Gilooly lives on, to ensure that all student athletes are trained and educated in CPR by The American Heart Association and to know that when I am on the court, my fellow teammates and my opponents can enjoy the sport they love because we should always have each others backs, and hearts.
Join Kate and I as we raise awareness, advocate for high school students to get trained in CPR and raise money for the AHA Mission.
October 26th our team will be hosting a Fundraiser at LaSalle Institute !
