I am thrilled to have been nominated to participate in The Leaders of Impact. It is personally important to me because I've seen the devastating effects heart disease has on those we love. At 9 years old, my son, Sebastian, was diagnosed with a heart condition that turned our lives upside down. We quickly found out that not many people are knowledgeable in heart health nor trained in what to do in an emergency. As a school nurse, I am in a position that can help influence health in our community. Sebastian's passion for advocacy and emergency training has inspired me to promote Kids Heart Challenge in local schools as well as train staff and students in CPR and what to do in an emergency. My school is also the first school in Allegheny County to be designated as a Heart Safe School through Project ADAM.
You have an opportunity to help support my efforts and shape the health of our community, as well as support the innovative research and bold initiatives of the American Heart Association that save and improve lives like for my son, Sebastian. The American Heart Association truly measures success in longer, healthier lives. By leveraging the strengths of this organization and mobilizing leaders across our community, together we can truly make an impact and ensure that every member of our community will have the greatest opportunity to lead their best life.
