Participating in Leaders of Impact is personally important to me because I've seen the devastating effects heart disease has on those we love. It is difficult to put into words just how life changing a heart transplant is, for the person receiving it, and for everyone who loves them.
Heart disease runs deep in my family. My mom received a heart transplant 18 years ago, and just last year, my brother received his. After years of uncertainty, countless doctor visits, and receiving pacemakers and defibrillators, both were diagnosed with AFib, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure. Watching them endure the physical and emotional toll of this disease before and after their transplants was heartbreaking.
We are incredibly grateful they were both given a second chance at life, but we are also fearful of what might come next. My sister and I have also been diagnosed with AFib. While we are currently doing well, the future is uncertain.
This is why the work of the American Heart Association means so much to me and my family. The research, the resources, and the hope they provide are important to the ongoing fight against heart disease because it can happen to anyone, at any time.
I am proud to be a part of Jen?s team for this campaign, and I hope you will consider supporting in any way you can. Every step forward helps save a life.
