Participating in Leaders of Impact is personally important to me because I've seen the devastating effects heart disease has on those we love.
My stepfather was much more than a stepfather to me—he was a bonus father, an important role model, and someone I was truly honored to have in my life. He was a beloved husband to my mother and a deeply valued part of our family. He had a history of arrhythmia and, at only 65 years old, his life was suddenly taken by a heart attack. He worked all day, came home, took a nap, and peacefully passed away. His death was unexpected and heartbreaking, but the love, guidance, example, and memories he left behind will always remain with me. I will forever be grateful that I had the privilege of calling him my stepfather and, in so many ways, my third parent.
