I'm proud to be a Leaders of Impact Nominee
I'm excited to be nominated for the Leaders of Impact campaign this year. As part of this year's class of changemakers, I'm dedicated to making a lasting impact on the health of our community and hope that I can count on your support!
Despite many advances, cardiovascular disease is still the No.1 killer in the US. And while approximately 80% of cardiovascular disease could be prevented through a healthy diet, physical activity, a healthy weight, not smoking, controlled blood pressure, diabetes, and lipid levels - the disparities in access to care, nutrition, and healthy environments make achieving these goals far too difficult for far too many people. That's why I am committed to being a part of this relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

Kari Fleck - Heart Survivor & 2025 Leaders of Impact Nominee
I'm honored to be nominated for the American Heart Association's Leaders of Impact campaign. As a heart survivor, I'm deeply passionate about raising awareness and making a lasting difference in the health of our community and I'm looking for your support to help do so!
My journey with heart disease began over 40 years ago. As a lifelong athlete and triathlete, I never imagined that fainting spells and fatigue were early signs of a serious condition. In 2017, at age 50, I experienced chest pain after a run and was told the words I'll never forget:
"Mrs. Fleck, we believe you're having a heart attack."
I was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia and underwent a life-saving ablation procedure. Today, I'm healthy, grateful, and dedicated to helping others through advocacy, education, and community programs. My identical twin sister has since been diagnosed with a similar condition, proof of how critical AHA-funded research and innovation truly are.
Despite progress, cardiovascular disease remains the No. 1 killer in the U.S. Many people are at higher risk because they lack access to basic health resources, nutritious food, and education. That's why I'm helping raise funds through the American Heart Association Orlando to provide CPR training kits and AED upgrades in local middle and high schools, empowering students with life-saving skills.
