Cardiovascular disease is significant throughout my mother’s family.
I spent many hours through my high school years helping my mother care for my grandmother after her four-vessel heart bypass surgery and years later a devastating stroke.
I never had the opportunity to meet my grandfather as he died of sudden cardiac arrest when my mother was in college. To our knowledge, there was no one around that knew CPR. (Click on the link below to learn/refresh your Hands-only CPR Skills.)
My mother has high blood pressure and high cholesterol, both of which have been controlled with heart healthy eating, exercise and medications. She is currently 82 years old.
My personal family experiences laid the foundation for my work as a cardiology nurse practitioner. I have the privilege of caring for and educating patients like my grandmother and mother.
With advances in knowledge of how CPR saves lives, I also care for people that have survived cardiac arrest because someone performed CPR and saved their life.
I am dedicated to improving the lives of people within our community as well as my own family.
Will you join efforts with me in supporting the education, innovative research and health equity initiatives of the American Heart Association? Together we can have the greatest impact.
