I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.
In 1983, at 6 weeks of age, I was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries at Geisinger and had my first catherization. At 4 months of age, I underwent my first open heart surgery at CHOP in Philly. During this procedure, doctors performed an arterial switch and closed multiple holes in my heart (VSDs).
At the age of 12, I had my second open heart surgery in Hershey. Doctors removed a valve that was no longer working as it should. Although I survived, my fight isn’t over. I still require yearly checkups and testing. (Echos, EKGs, and cardiac MRIs)
