The struggle against heart diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart failure, lukemia and cancer continues. My first wakeup call came 20 years ago when I started taking medication for high blood pressure.  This was followed up 9 years ago when I had a triple bypass. The wakeup call this year was the installation of a stent to repair an aortic aneurysm.  Thanks to cardiac research, this is now a simple procedure instead of a major operation.  A friend who had previously had a heart attack outdid himself last year by having a four way bypass.  We all have friends who suffer from high blood pressure and high cholesterol which in too many cases leads to strokes and heart attacks. The research funded by the American Heart Association is helping reduce the number and severity of heart attacks and strokes. My participation in the Heart Walk helps to support that research.
