Be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives! Join me in supporting the American Heart Association!
Dear Family & Friends,
This Fall, we will once again unite our community for the Greater Washington Heart Walk digital experience giving you so much flexibility to participate wherever you are and in the way that works best for you, and your family if they are participating too! You can be a part of the experience by taking a walk, dancing, running, bike riding, etc. Don’t forget to use the activity tracker in the Heart Walk app to track your steps! Whatever you choose to do, it’s time to GET MOVING on Heart Walk Day! with a goal of raising $2,400,000 million. Every dollar raised supports our mission to fight heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 5 killers of all Americans, through research and education – a mission that is more critical than ever.
Last year we achieved our goal raising a record $2.5 million. This outpouring of support translates directly to our work of providing science-based information, health resources, community programs and patient support across the greater Washington area.
The global pandemic has created an even greater abundance of need throughout our community – and we were quick to respond. There are more than 120 million people in the U.S. with one or more cardiovascular condition putting them at a higher risk for complications from the coronavirus. That is why the AHA has been doing what we do best – working with researchers, medical experts, community leaders, businesses and families to reduce the impact of the coronavirus. Together we are:
- Investing $2.5M into fast-tracked heart and brain COVID-19 research
- Helping accelerate antiviral drugs to combat COVID-19
- Providing health care workers with ventilator training
- Training hospitals and communities in hands-only CPR
- Working with federal and state governments to ensure families have access to care
- Providing patients with the information they need during this time
We recognize that COVID-19 has forever changed how we will execute our work – work that needs your continued support. Until the world is free of heart disease and stroke, the AHA has the passion and persistence to fund, and ultimately find, a cure to the world’s leading causes of death. Your support helps us create a culture of health in our homes, schools and workplaces. Will you support me in 2024 with a gift of $30.00.
Given this urgent need, we are starting our Fall Heart Walk campaign even earlier this year, hoping you will be willing to partner with us again in meeting these unprecedented challenges. Your tax-deductible contribution (Tax ID #13-5613797) will greatly enhance our collective response efforts.
We want to make the 2024 Greater Washington Heart Walk a success and appreciate your support in helping us do just that. If you have any questions or need more information or health resources, please reach out to me. I look forward to hearing from you and securing your support for our efforts once again.
With Heart,
Derrick Jacobs
