It's been five years since our little program has fielded a little team with big heart...but we're baaack! [Toga! TOga! TOGA!]
Since 2019, we've lived through a pandemic, changing how we all move through the world. We've lost loved ones, some of us continue to deal with long-COVID. As we age, the reality of higher cholesterol, A1C numbers, or other heart health risk indicators become a reality.
Since my last walk, I have relatives who now need the assistance of pacemakers. Other relatives continue to balance medication and diets to manage high blood pressure. My aunt, Janet "Peaches" Davis passed away in 2022. Although COPD ultimately took her, she was also a longtime stroke survivor.
Seeing heart disease strike those close to me early and later in life motivates me to do what I can to take care of myself. It drives me to support the important research and outreach championed by the American Heart Association.
I'm walking in November because it is personal. I'm walking for the family and friends impacted by heart disease. I'm also walking for the family I don't know who likely also has these stories and struggles.
Every day is a gift. Each morning brings a new opportunity to do a new thing. I hope you'll consider joining me in doing what we can to make a difference in helping each other in building longer, healthier lives.
Be blessed and a blessing!
