As I considered the cause and mission for healthier hearts and the importance of supporting this heart-worthy cause, I knew that I had to be present and accounted for on behalf of all those who are either a victim of heart disease or stroke.
When I researched the statistics and even thought about the persons (i.e., maternal grandmother, mother, brother, nephew and great-nephew and others) I personally know or knew, I didn't have the heart to not get involved.
Did you know that in 2019, 121.5 million adults in the U.S. had cardiovascular disease, which is about 48% of adults? Approximately 1 out of every 5 people, died of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the U.S., in 2022 (younger than age 65). According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's research, about 1 in 20 adults over the age of 20 have coronary artery disease (CAD). Every year, about 805,000 people in the United States have a heart attack, according to the CDC. Of these, 605,000 are people who had their first heart attack, and 200,000 happen to be people who have already had a heart attack.
Research shows that approximately 795,000 people have strokes, with about 610,000 being first time stroke victims.
