Not quite a year ago, on October 5th 2023, after a soccer game I was out to dinner with my kids and I suffered an ischemic stroke. I had no warning, I am young and healthy, yet there I was being carried out of a restaurant and laying on the ground outside with my kids standing over me, helpless.
After a total of 7 strokes, I am lucky to be here today. I am only alive because of a friend and cardiologist who pushed me to see another doctor, an amazing nuerologist who found what the other doctors had missed- a dissection in my vetebral artery. I had a life saving surgery on November 15th 2023.
This walk happens to be on my birthday weekend. I have always hated turning a year older, but this year I feel lucky to have survived the past year. A year ago I never imagined I would be attending this event as a survivor.
